I've just returned from doing a few errands with my daughter and was a bit shocked to see all the BACK TO SCHOOL "stuff" out in stores. It's not even August for goodness sake.
It's so easy to get swept up in the 'future' and become disengaged from the RIGHT NOW. If you want to think about your child going back to school then that's fine...in fact I love the new site up by PTO: back2school2007.com. BUT...do your own organization and planning rather than jazzing your child up about their upcoming classes, responsibilities, etc.
Live in the summer when it's summer.
Prepare YES ... but celebrate the NOW.
School starts (where I live) in the middle of August. Can you believe it? I have a newborn, so I'm not to the "preparing for school" phase...just quite yet. But, I do feel so sorry for the kids that have to go back so early. It's like they are being robbed of their summer. Definitely agree with you. Live in the summer when it's summer! :)

Our first day back to school was today. So just because it is not back to school where you are there are different schedules throughout the country. We are on a modified year-round schedule and love it.

My children start school on August 26. I am spending time getting supplies needed for school.

My kids start school in about 3 weeks. The back to school ad is getting me motivated in buying schools supplies, etc.

Schools start here on August 8th, but my son doesn't start preschool until the 14th of Aug. I guess they have to start early to make sure every one has time to get ready.

I agree; school for us in Wisconsin starts in Sept. Some years its before labor day, sometimes the tuesday after. I'm happy back to school is later rather than earlier however, its hard come june when "all the other kids" are already out of school & mine go thru the 2nd or 3rd week.
